Summary and Suggestions

 

Purposes of practice

As a prospective educator, it is important to develop skills in teaching. This practicum aims to encourage prospective educators to develop skills in teaching, encourage and train their ability to speak English, increase the experience and skills of prospective educators so they can contribute more optimally to organizations and society, especially in the fields of education and teaching.

Procedures of practice

This SEA-Teacher activity was held for 4 weeks. The first week is the observation period. During this period we made observations on the school environment, including students and school traditions. The second week is the teaching assistant period, where we assist teachers in teaching in class. This week, preparations for the following week are also carried out, such as making lesson plans and learning media according to the material to be taught as well as consulting with mentors and cooperation teachers. The third week is practice teaching. We carry out teaching practice according to the material and lesson plans that have been prepared previously. From this teaching practice, we get feedback from our cooperation teacher. The fourth week, which is the last week, is evaluation day. We taught in class as in the third week, but on this occasion our teaching practices were assessed by our cooperating teacher and mentor and we were given an evaluation of the results of the assessment.

Outcome of practice

The output resulting from this program is in the form of a blog written based on a guideline that has been determined by the organizer. This blog is the output of the SEA-Teacher program. This blog is also a mandatory output which is a requirement for participants to get a certificate.

The challenges of practice

During this SEA-Teacher activity I learned and learned many things, including; learn to socialize with various characters, backgrounds and origins, be patient, practice discipline, time management, money management, maintaining faith, and much more.

As a Muslim, life here is not difficult but also not easy. In getting our daily food, at first we had quite a hard time because we couldn't eat food containing pork. Actually, this can be overcome if we cook our own food. However, in our apartment we are not allowed to cook and there is no kitchen. Therefore we always buy food.

At school, fortunately the people there really understood me. What I can and cannot eat, my space needs for worship, they are really very kind. Apart from my religious regulations, there was one thing that was an obstacle at that time. The unavailability of the EP & IP class chemistry teachers there made me feel a little frustrated because the regular class chemistry teachers there couldn't speak English so it was difficult for us to communicate and discuss learning and class design. The EP & IP class chemistry teacher only arrived in the fourth week I was there so I felt like I wasn't optimal in this program. But this is no one's fault because that is the situation. We are the ones who should be able to adapt and take advantage of existing circumstances.

Overall impression

Overall, I feel very happy to be able to take part in this program. I have gained a lot of experience and happiness. It's truly unforgettable. In fact, I'm still afraid to open my photo album while in Thailand while participating in this program. I'm still afraid of feeling sad and missing being in Chiang Mai. Difficulty and pleasure coexist. Both have a significant impact.

Suggestions for future improvement

SEA-Teacher is a program that provides opportunities for education students to have teaching experience outside our home country. This activity is a bridge for us to find out what education is like outside our country. Not only education, but also the culture in the country where we are delegated. This program is very good. Based on the experience I have gained, there may be several things that need to be addressed, including ensuring that the school where we teach really knows what they are supposed to do. Such as what the procedures for this activity are, the assessment procedures for SEA-Teacher participants, what the role of the school is, and also what facilities the school should provide to SEA-Teacher participants.

Finally, thank you very much to SEAMEO, UII, CMRU, Yupparaj Wittayalai School, Mrs. Arry for welcoming us warmly and treating us very well while in Thailand, Mrs. Anodhar and Mrs. Rudeewan as my mentor, Mr. Niko and Miss Nisa as my chemistry teacher, Mrs. Aura that has brought me and my colleagues on a trip to Chiang Mai, my parents who have supported me, my friends in SEA-Teacher Batch 9, and all the parties who have helped me from preparation to my return from Thailand. I am very grateful and happy.
