How's My Teaching Practice going?

Haloo semuanya, apa kabar?

Hahaha it's a pantun from Indonesian which means hello everyone, how are you? Yep, I hope you are always in good health! So last week I told you how I prepare to teach, starting from analyzing the results of class observations, compiling lesson plans, and creating learning media.

This time I will tell you about the teaching practice that I did at Yupparaj Wittayalai School. As I mentioned before, I was placed in the EP & IP Program where the learning uses English. So in teaching I also use English. I am really lucky because the students here speak good English, so I don't experience difficulties in communicating and learning.

It was time for the first teaching practice, September 4 2023. Chemistry lessons in mathayyom 4 are usually carried out in the chemistry laboratory. It is located opposite the IP Program English Department teacher's room. With the supplies I had prepared, I taught Mathayyom 4 for 2 x 50 minutes, presenting material on Ionic Bonds.

I start the class with greetings, asking students how they are, asking for attendance and who is absent today. This opening is approximately 7 minutes. Because this is my first teaching practice, I used this initial time for introductions. I introduced myself and also asked the students to introduce themselves one by one. This was a fun moment, where I had to remember the names of the students one by one, greet them, and become closer to them. The students in this class also seemed excited about my presence in this class. I am so glad. It didn't feel like 30 minutes had passed.

Next, after the introductory session is finished, I convey the objectives of today's learning. Yep, we will learn about ionic bonds. Next, I started explaining ionic bonds with the help of the PPT that I had prepared, markers and whiteboards available in class. I conveyed material after material, asking if there was anything that still didn't understand, or if there were any questions. Thankfully everything went smoothly. Then give questions and a little practice questions to the students. This learning material delivery session lasts approximately 60 minutes.
Lastly, closing. We conclude today's learning and close the lesson with thanks and greetings. I am very grateful to Teacher Nisa for accompanying me in my first teaching practice^^
